Plasticity in recovery and persistence of stuttering
Many individuals who suffer from stuttering in childhood recover. This suggests that there is plasticity in the processes leading to the disorder. Comparisons were made between fluent speakers and speakers who stutter (recovered and persistent) that were intended to elucidate details of this process. Socio-demographic, family history, speech and language, and imaging data are reported.
متن کاملPredictive factors of persistence and recovery: pathways of childhood stuttering.
This article presents broad preliminary findings from a longitudinal study of stuttering pertaining to differentiation of developmental paths of childhood stuttering, as well as possible early prediction of High Risk, Low Risk, and No Risk for chronic stuttering. More than 100 preschool children who stutter have been closely followed for several years from near the onset of stuttering using a m...
متن کاملStrategies used in rhyme-monitoring
This study investigates whether subjects use a strategy of word recognition in a rhyme-monitoring task. Results suggest that this is indeed the case. In addition, however, the task introduces an effect of phonological priming of the cue word.
متن کاملPreschool speech articulation and nonword repetition abilities may help predict eventual recovery or persistence of stuttering.
PURPOSE In preschool children, we investigated whether expressive and receptive language, phonological, articulatory, and/or verbal working memory proficiencies aid in predicting eventual recovery or persistence of stuttering. METHODS Participants included 65 children, including 25 children who do not stutter (CWNS) and 40 who stutter (CWS) recruited at age 3;9-5;8. At initial testing, partic...
